Realism is a place of discipline, integrity and excellence. It evokes a strong sense of teamwork and a love of history.

I. What Is Realism

  • Realism in Day of Defeat: Source is a reenactment of World War II battles. Our gameplay is mostly automated and consists of 4 rounds of Attack vs. Defense (AvD), with the 4th round being played in the event that both teams win at least 1 round. In the event that both teams win 2 rounds each a 5th, Attack vs. Attack (AvA), style round will be played as a tie-breaker. All round victories are decided by last-man-standing (the team with the last player(s) alive wins).
  • Each match will have an admin which selects two team leaders who will in turn select their teams and decide upon weapon restrictions for the match. Follow your team leader's orders, realism is about planned teamwork and you will have to work together to succeed against any opponent worth their salt.
  • Realism adds a boundary called a mid-line to each map which usually splits it into comparable areas of defense for each side. The resulting rule being defenders can never pass the mid-line.

II. Our Realism Rules

  • 5 minute setups with 14 minute rounds
  • Rifle grenade priming is allowed (known as "Rifle Priming")
  • All players are allowed to pick up any found weapon (known as "All Pick Ups")
  • Breakable and easily-moveable defensive barricades only
  • No skyboxing grenades (throwing grenades which touch the skybox)
  • No roofs positions
  • Realistic positions only; they must be physically possible in real life

III. Weapon Restrictions

Upon acceptance of your application you will be a Recruit and will need to adhere to weapon restrictions in our public server. Weapon restrictions are very important. In realism, rifles are only guaranteed weapon making a need for all to be proficient with one. Becoming the best rifleman you can could be prove to be a great asset. Also, sticking with military tradition, we train our members in weapons usage and tactics before they get certified to use them. Most find we offer some quite fun and informative courses.

The ability to grant Permission-to-Use (PTU) is a right given to Staff Sergeants and above. "PTU" is said in chat when a Private or higher wants to use a weapon that they are not normally issued. One must note, there is a required Kill to Death (K/D) ratio of +5, meaning least 5 more kills than deaths are needed before a PTU can be requested.

Below are the public server weapon restrictions:

RankAllowed Weapon(s)May PTUMay NOT PTU
Recruit (Rec.)RifleNoneRocket, Assault, Support, Sniper, Machine Gun
Private (Pvt.)RifleRocket, Assault, SupportSniper, Machine Gun
Private First-Class (Pfc.)Rifle, RocketAssault, SupportSniper, Machine Gun
Corporal (Cpl.)Rifle. Rocket, AssaultSupportSniper, Machine Gun
Sergeant (Sgt.)Rifle, Rocket, Assault, SupportSniper, Machine GunN/A

All ranking members Staff Sergeant (S/Sgt.) and above may use any weapon they wish, as well as grant PTUs. Only the highest-ranking member present in the server should grant PTUs to avoid confusion and follow military command structure. So if a Staff Sergeant (S/Sgt.) and a First Sergeant (1st Sgt.) are both present, only the 1st Sgt. may grant PTUs.

IV. What Will Realism Do For You?

Realism will teach you respect and discipline. Realism has changed the way plenty of people think and act. I have been told by many who thought realism was dumb that, when they joined a realism unit, they could never go back to playing CAL or TWL; it made them better people, and they didn't feel that they would fit in with that group any longer.

To conclude, realism is a way of life. If you wish to join the 4th Infantry Division, please sign up. You will be welcomed as long as you follow the rules, pass your Basic Combat Training (BCT) evaluations, and correctly fill out the application.

For the 4th!
